Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (Proprietary) Limited’s vision is to be the preferred global provider of standardised, safe nuclear energy systems, fuel and life-cycle support.
The pebble bed technology supports the objectives of the international Generation IV1 nuclear requirements in the key areas of, economics, safety and reliability, proliferation resistance and physical protection.
PBMR technology has the potential to revolutionise the power industry due to its relatively small, modular, passive and inherently safe standardised design, operating at high temperatures. PBMR technology is versatile and can be applied in the resurgence of interest in process heat applications to mitigate the damaging effects of carbon emissions on climate change.

CORE COMPETENCIES
With the support of suppliers and with the enthusiasm, commitment and dedication of the employees, PBMR created the largest nuclear engineering capability in the country with over 600 technical employees, complemented by approximately 650 people from global suppliers and further 200 people from two experienced engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) companies.
PBMR is able to effectively deploy its resources both nationally and internationally with the support of its business systems, processes and disciplined teams that have been developed over the past few years.

With the pebble bed technology, PBMR is positioning itself to be at the core to the global nuclear renaissance. PBMR’s focus enables the company to participate in the global village and provide clean, safe and viable nuclear power generation and related product solutions to niche markets.

OWNERSHIP
PBMR is a wholly owned subsidiary of Eskom Enterprises (Pty) Limited, which is a subsidiary of the national electricity utility of South Africa, Eskom Holdings Limited. It is governed under the terms of a joint venture Co-operation Agreement between the founder investors.
